Overview
BlockDex, from Compound Labs, is a search index for shadcn components across registries. It crawls registries rather than curating them, and lets developers compare previews, dependencies, access checks and dated install results before installing directly from the original publisher. At the time of writing, the index covered 1,299 registries and 137,456 items.
Results can be filtered by kind, access and styling and viewed as rows or a gallery. Each record shows the install command, the request it makes, dependencies, license, last push, stars, and whether an install test passed. The @blockdex namespace in the shadcn directory serves 359 items, 279 from EvilCharts and 80 from Magic UI, whose installs resolve to the original publishers.
Features
- Cross-registry search: Queries such as marquee, sidebar, data table or chart run against the full index in relevance order.
- Item kinds: Components, blocks, hooks, themes, utilities and examples, each with counts.
- Access probing: Items are marked free, paid or unverified based on whether the endpoint answers without a key.
- Install tests: Records show whether a dated install test passed, failed or has not been run.
- Item records: Dependencies, registry items pulled in, file count, license, first and last seen dates and repository activity.
- Live previews: Frames and captures from each registry's own site where available.
- Publisher installs: Install commands resolve to the original registry URL.
- Editor use: The index can also be queried from the editor.
