Overview
Notpad is an open-source, cross-platform take on the classic Windows Notepad, described by its author Muhammed Rahif as "the classic notepad, enhanced." It runs in the browser on GitHub Pages and as a desktop app through Tauri, offering a simple, distraction-free place to write notes.
The app is built with Svelte 5, Tailwind CSS and shadcn-svelte (on Bits UI), bundled with Vite. Its dependencies show a Quill-based editor, local persistence through localForage, and Tauri plugins for file system access and native dialogs. The roadmap lists semantic releases and desktop support as done, with multi-language support (Chinese, Spanish, Malayalam) planned.
Features
- Notepad-style interface: A familiar Windows Notepad layout for plain note-taking.
- Web and desktop: Runs as a web app and as a Tauri desktop app.
- Installable PWA: Configured with vite-plugin-pwa and Workbox.
- Local persistence: Notes are stored locally with localForage.
- File access: Opens and saves files through the File System Access API and Tauri's fs and dialog plugins.
- Editor extras: Keyboard shortcuts, printing and fullscreen mode.
