Overview
nostalgia-ui is a shadcn-compatible registry that recreates Mac OS 9 interface components for React, built by Giorgio Liapakis. The site lists 78 components with platinum bevels, system-style typography and pixel-level details, all drawn in pure CSS with zero image assets.
Components are built on Radix UI primitives with Tailwind CSS v4 and class-variance-authority, keeping the same API as their shadcn counterparts, so each one installs into an existing shadcn setup with a single command. Besides the primitives, the registry includes 12 blocks that reproduce full classic Mac OS screens, plus a theme with Platinum and Graphite appearances.
Features
- 78 retro components: Buttons, windows, title bars, menu bars, dialogs, tables, charts, sidebars, calendars, date pickers, comboboxes and data tables.
- Classic Mac OS controls: Bevel buttons, little arrows, placards, group boxes, folder tags, list boxes, tree views and a control strip.
- Full-screen blocks: Boot screen, login, Finder window, Get Info, Control Panel, installer, open/save dialog and a copy progress window.
- Error screens: A Sad Mac 404 page and an "unexpectedly quit" dialog.
- Pure CSS: Every bevel and shadow is CSS, with no image files.
- Accessible: Radix UI primitives provide keyboard and screen reader support.
- Theme provider: Platinum and Graphite appearances through a retro theme provider.
