Base UI

Overview

Base UI is an unstyled React component library for building accessible user interfaces, web apps and design systems. It comes from the creators of Radix, Floating UI and Material UI, and is developed full-time by a dedicated team of seven. The @base-ui/react package reached v1.0.0 in December 2025 and has shipped regular minor releases since, up to v1.9.0 in October 2026.

The package bundles no CSS and prescribes no styling approach, so it works with Tailwind, CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS or plain CSS, and with animation libraries like Motion. Its APIs are intentionally close to Radix UI for easier migration, and it is the primitive layer under many shadcn-style component libraries.
